Safe and efficient management of the InBasket and Mailbox is a critical competency for the Family Physician.  The FMC Curriculum includes a few key areas to facilitate resident learning and clinical care in this area, including:  R1 InBasket FMC Team Time Orientation and Block One R1 InBasket FMC One-on-One Faculty Sessions to teach and confirm Level of Independence.

R1 InBasket FMC Team Time Orientation

FMC Team Time will have designated time for R1s to be introduced to the basic principles of Results, Rx Refill Requests, MyChart Messages, and Cross-Coverage. This will also help R1s set up Quick Actions, Quick Buttons, and Quick Notes, and review how to manage their paper mailbox.

R1 InBasket FMC One-On-One Faculty Sessions

Each R1 has Block 1-3 time designated to work with an FMC attending one-on-one to learn tips for management of the InBasket and paper Mailbox and to get checked-off on basic competencies to achieve the Level of Independence of 3 required to manage InBasket/Mail independently.  The objectives and learning points for these sessions is found HERE.  The Faculty Evaluation Form is found HERE.

Please email Dr. Spata or Dr. Rich if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas regarding FMC InBasket curriculum or management.
