Goals and Purpose

Under RRC requirements, each resident "must receive at least 100 hours of management and leadership instruction". To prepare residents to assume leadership roles in their practices, communities, and within the profession of medicine, the residency has a structured curriculum and practical experience teaching the skills of a successful presentation. Understanding how to give a concise, clear, and informative presentation is critical skill training for residents to be able to provide leadership for a clinical practice, a hospital medical staff, professional organizations, and community groups advocating for the public health. (As an example, Dr. Schlaudecker routinely lectures to families in conjunction with the Alzheimer's Association of Greater CIncinnati as part of his leadership service to our community.)

Learning how to do a presentation is an important skill for all of us. Unfortunately, this is often learned on the fly or by trial and error. The R3 Presentation is a conference series to help learn how to give an outstanding presentation.

Methods

Each second year resident will choose a topic of interest and present on the topic. Along the way, the resident will receive guidance on how to write objectives, how to prepare for the presentation, how to deliver an interactive presentation, and how to avoid common pitfalls.

Timeline

  • 2 months prior to your presentation date: email your topic selection to Dr Rich. Gather resources.

  • 1 month prior: meet with Dr. Rich to go over objectives, how to create a powerpoint, keys to how the adult brain learns.

  • 2 weeks prior: meet with Dr Rich for fine-tuning your presentation. Objectives should be written for this meeting. You should also bring with you a list of 3 concepts that you want the residents to take away from your presentation.
